Drop Off / pick up

Hello Jackson Heights Families!

We are so excited that we will have many of our students back on campus beginning Monday, October 19. Due to certain restrictions created by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have some important information to share with you about dropping off and picking up your child at school. First off, parents will not be allowed to leave their car and visit classrooms.  There will be three designated drop off zones at the school, two of which will begin accepting students at 8:00 AM. If you have students in multiple grades, you will be stopping multiple times. Please plan for extra time. We predict delayed drop off times for the first couple weeks

First through Third grade (station 2) families, please stay in the right hand lane continuing up the driveway to the front of the school. Your drop off zone will be on the stars at the front of the cafeteria. Students will be screened in your car, which will consist of health related questions and a temperature check before students leave the car.

4 & 5th grade (station 3) families will continue up the driveway in the left hand lane and will continue around the driveway until you reach the bike rack area in the South East part of the parking lot. There will be signs posted. Just as with the first drop off zone, students will be screened in your car.

Our third drop off zone will begin taking students after 8:10 AM. This zone will be for TK & Kindergarten (station 1) students. Those families will stay to the furthest right lane, exiting towards the back of the school and continue through the Little League circle, then return to the drop zone. There will be teal signs to direct you. Please, do not park. Do not get out of your car.  Your student will not be allowed out of the car until busses have cleared the parking lot.   Remember your students temperature and health screening questions will happen inside your car.

This flow of traffic will be identical to pick up zones at 2:12 PM. Kindergarten parents will be given color coded and numbered cards which will help facilitate pick up of your child in the afternoon.

We appreciate your patience while we all take safety precautions during these unprecedented times.  We predict delayed drop off times for the first couple weeks on In person learning. Reasonable tardiness will be excused as we learn to facilitate screening our students.

Walkers and bike riders
Top of Page

Before your student leaves for school, be sure to pre-screen your child by checking to see if they have any cold or flu symptoms or a fever. Please see above for guidance on when to keep your student home from school. If your child is healthy, then send them on their way. With the number of cars that will be coming and going to and from the school, we want to stress how important it is that our students exercise safety and awareness at all times.
If you live north of the school, please use the walking path which enters the school grounds right after the bridge. Students will have to cross an access road at a clearly marked point. If riding a bike, continue to follow the path up to the bike racks behind the storage units where you can secure your bicycle to one of the two bike racks. Be sure to secure your bike with your own locking device. Once your bike is secure, please go to the screening station (staion #2) in front of the cafeteria along with any students that walk from the north.
If you live south of Jackson Heights, please stay on the sidewalk up and around the parking lot, where you will find two bike racks on which to secure your bike and a screening station. Again, please provide your own lock for your bike. Bikers will then join any walking students at the screening station (station #3) set up at the Southeast end of the parking lot.
Once walkers and bikers are screened, they will be allowed to proceed to the cafeteria to pick up their breakfast before proceeding to their classrooms. If breakfast is already eaten at home, students will go directly to their classrooms.
If students are identified with any cold or flu-like symptoms or a fever, they will be quarantined in an isolation room with an adult monitoring them until you can arrive to pick them up and take them home. Please be sure your contact information is up to date.
Thank you very much for being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible Jaguars! Aerial of Stations 1 - 3
